Good students get stickers on cars, alerting tailgaters, I mean friendly folks in the car behind, that someone’s son or daughter made the honor roll or was a good citizen. Cheerleaders, baseball players, soccer player, gymnasts and more get recognition for their activities. Who is the chauffer, I mean dedicated parental driver, of these lovely, accomplished and active children? Most likely mom, that’s who.
Moms, the unsung heroes of our community. Keepers of the home, cookers of the meals, drivers of the kids, volunteers at the PTA, workers at their jobs, leaders of a club and all ’round achievers of an awful lot of stuff that goes on.
Let’s not limit this to moms. Women in general are the heart and soul of our society. They are the majority of the caretakers for elderly parents, spouses and children of all ages. They are the volunteers at the schools. Find a charity that has a volunteer board or committee, and most of the seats are filled with female fannies. Look at the clubs — garden clubs, civic clubs and women’s clubs, and they are populated by active women who care about making their community a better place. Check out the networking groups — filled with women entrepreneurs who have passion for what they do — and likely doing it for flexibility so they can be mom when they need to be mom and not apologize for it. See that sleek hand holding the picket sign or the candidate sign? That woman cares about the future and is willing to stand.
Everywhere we look there are women of action. Women driven to do something that leaves the world a better place for their families, friends and fellow Americans. Nurturing those around them and wielding more power than they realize when they get there to do their thing.
GoodLiving magazine has had the privilege of writing about some amazing women and so we decided to do more to honor them and the other unsung heroes who on a daily basis give more of themselves than they get back. Oh, every year a few of them get an award at a luncheon. But what about the rest?
These are Women of Action. Connected by their passions for doing something that makes a difference to someone or something else. We think they are very special and deserve more than a pat on the back. They deserve a sticker. A sticker of their very own to place on the rear window of their vehicle. A sticker that lets those friendly folks behind her know that woman driving that car is extra special. A Woman of Action.
If you are a Woman of Action, let us honor you with a sticker. If you don’t want to put on your car, put it up at work. Put it in your bathroom so that every day you’re reminded that your actions are meaningful and important.
To get a cool sticker like the one shown below, send us a comment form through the website with your address and tell us a little about what you do. The first 100 people to send in the form will get a free sticker mailed to them. You will also be added to our email list for newsletters so you can learn more about Women of Action.
